Liposuction

Compression Garments

  • You must wear the garments around the clock for the first 4-6 weeks.
  • Leave garments on even when showering.
  • Shower daily and blow-dry garment after showering.
  • You may exchange garments for a compression garment of your choice
  • You will be instructed at your first postoperative visit.

Postoperative Course

  • There will be a lot of drainage from liposuction port sites this is normal
  • The drainage may be, and usually is bloody. This is normal
  • Milk fluid toward port sites, expressing fluid
  • Leave tapes and sutures in place
  • You may place gauze over draining sites as needed.
  • To prevent constipation
  • Stay hydrated with fluids
  • Take stool softener as needed
  • Eat foods that keep you regular
  • No heavy lifting
  • Take pain medicine as prescribed
  • You need to be up and active during the day walking is encouraged.

Results

  • There will be extensive bruising and discomfort.
  • Initially you will be very swollen
  • Swelling takes 6-8 weeks to improve
  • Final result will be seen starting at 3-6 months
  • Will continue to improve for the first year
  • Swelling and bruising will progress down the body
